Overview
Making restaurant inventory easier to manage
Frivio is an AI-powered restaurant inventory management platform designed to help restaurant owners, managers, and kitchen staff reduce food waste, improve inventory visibility, and make more informed operational decisions.
As the UX/UI Designer on a four-person team, I helped translate the product strategy into a clear, centralized interface for tracking inventory, monitoring waste, managing alerts, and making smarter reordering decisions.
Challenge
Turning complex inventory data into useful actions
Restaurant inventory management can involve manual tracking, stock shortages, over-ordering, and limited visibility into food waste. Existing solutions can also be expensive or difficult to learn, creating barriers for smaller restaurant teams.
The opportunity was to create a simpler experience that could bring inventory information, waste insights, alerts, and ordering decisions together in one place.
Structure
Organizing the kitchen around daily decisions
The product structure was built around the information restaurant teams need most frequently: inventory status, waste, alerts, reordering, deliveries, and operational impact.
The dashboard acts as the central hub, giving managers an overview of the kitchen while allowing them to move directly into tasks such as reviewing stock, logging waste, checking alerts, and managing pending orders.
Design
From product strategy to a focused interface
I translated the team's product strategy and feature set into a dashboard-driven interface designed around clarity, visibility, and quick action. Using Claude to help develop the prototype, I brought together real-time inventory data, waste tracking, expiration alerts, reorder recommendations, and recent activity while keeping high-priority issues visible without overwhelming the user.
Landing Page
The landing page introduces Frivio as an AI-powered inventory system built to help restaurants reduce waste, improve inventory control, and operate more efficiently. The experience leads with the core value proposition, then guides visitors through key features, benefits, and calls to action such as starting a free trial or requesting a demo.
Dashboard
The dashboard gives restaurant managers an at-a-glance view of the kitchen, surfacing low-stock items, upcoming expirations, and priority issues. Users can quickly identify what needs attention before service begins and move directly into the relevant task.
Delivery
The delivery workflow helps restaurant teams verify incoming stock and flag issues before inventory is updated. Users can inspect each item, identify damaged goods, and confirm accepted items while keeping exceptions visible for the kitchen team.
Inventory
The inventory experience gives teams a clear view of current stock, including quantities, expiration dates, and recently received items. By showing older and newer stock together, Frivio helps users identify what needs to be used first and prevent avoidable waste.
Alerts
Alerts turn inventory data into actionable recommendations, surfacing issues such as expiring ingredients and elevated waste. Frivio helps users understand what requires attention and suggests practical actions before a problem becomes a larger operational cost.
Waste Log
Waste tracking makes individual incidents easy to record while connecting them to broader operational trends. Teams can quickly log discarded ingredients and use the resulting data to understand where waste is occurring and what may be contributing to it.
Ordering
Frivio turns inventory signals into actionable purchasing decisions. Recommended items and quantities are generated from current stock and predicted demand, while users can review, adjust, and consolidate orders before sending them to suppliers.
Impact
The Impact view connects everyday inventory decisions to measurable operational outcomes. Metrics and trends give restaurant teams a clearer picture of changes in waste, savings, stockouts, ordering accuracy, and inventory efficiency over time.
Reflection
Designing for decisions, not just data
Frivio reinforced the importance of designing complex products around the decisions users need to make, rather than simply displaying all available information. The challenge was not just showing inventory data, but helping restaurant teams quickly understand what needs attention and what they can do about it.
Working within a team also strengthened my ability to translate a broader product strategy into a focused interface. Designing the dashboard and core workflows required balancing multiple features while maintaining a clear hierarchy and consistent experience across the product.
