Overview

A connected flow for everyday payments

Locus is a mobile wallet designed to bring everyday payments into a single, cohesive experience. The platform combines payments, rewards, spending activity, and account management to reduce the friction of switching between different methods and apps. I explored how a unified payment experience could make everyday transactions faster, clearer, and more predictable.

Challenge

Making everyday payments feel more seamless

Everyday payments often require people to switch between cards, transit passes, wallets, and apps, creating friction when speed and reliability matter most. Locus addresses this fragmentation by bringing payment methods, transaction context, and rewards into one connected experience.

Structure

Connecting payment, visibility, and engagement

The information architecture centres the experience around Scan to Pay, while Home, Wallet, Discover, Rewards, and Activity support the broader payment ecosystem. The structure was designed to reduce decision fatigue and create clearer connections between completing payments, managing funds, and engaging with rewards.

Design

From user flows to a scalable interface

I translated the product strategy into low- and mid-fidelity wireframes, a visual style guide, a reusable UI system, and high-fidelity screens. The design focused on reducing interruptions, making important information visible at the right moment, and creating consistent patterns across the app.

Onboarding

The onboarding experience gives returning users a straightforward path into their account, with email and password login, password recovery, and third-party authentication. New users can also move directly into account creation.

Home

Home brings the app's key functions together, giving users quick access to Scan to Pay, Top Up, and Redeem while keeping balance, points, and recent activity visible at a glance.

Scan

Scan to Pay is the primary action throughout the app. Users present their personal QR code, authenticate securely, and receive payment confirmation while available balance and activated offers are applied automatically.

Wallet

Wallet centralizes balances, funding options, and Locus card management. Users can add funds, enable automatic reloads, link physical cards, and manage their payment sources from one place.

Activity

Activity gives users a centralized view of transactions, spending summaries, and reward activity. Searchable and filterable history makes it easier to understand spending and access details for individual transactions.

Discover

Discover gives users a dedicated space to explore offers, participating merchants, curated collections, and new programs. Search, categories, and personalized content help users find relevant opportunities without taking them out of the broader payment experience.

Rewards

Rewards brings earning and redemption into the same experience as everyday payments. Users can see how they are earning points, explore ways to maximize rewards, and convert points into Locus balance through a straightforward redemption flow.

Reflection

Designing a connected product experience

Locus pushed me to think beyond individual screens and consider how multiple features could work together as one product. Mapping the user journey helped me understand how payments, rewards, discovery, and account management could support one another rather than feeling like separate features.

The project also reinforced the value of iteration and system thinking. Refining the flows and building reusable patterns helped create a more cohesive experience while giving each feature a clear role within the larger product.
